FACTS supported SHS by bringing young people in recovery to speak with students during health class in December and January
Workshop for Plymouth County communities on applying for a DFC Grant -DA and FACTS presented

The continuation application for Year 4 of our grant has been successfully submitted (action plan and budget) and is pending approval

10: 35 Clergy Update
Rev. Barb Welch will give an update on behalf of Scituate clergy and she will also share a doctoral project she is working on at Andover Newton Theological School. The project is for clergy; seminarians, and spiritual leaders. The project covers spiritual/religious issues affecting care for substance abuse sufferers as it pertains to child hood trauma.

Register now for this awesome prevention workshop. This group is reserved for families with freshmen. Co-facilitated by Amy Heffernan, SHS Health Educator & Annmarie Galvin, Scituate FACTS.

“What’s so special about a teenage brain?” – April 5, 2016
Junior Students & Parents for Pre-Prom Info – All welcome ages 12 and up.
Dr. Sion Harris, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and researcher at Children’s Hospital. We will share local statistics on youth substance use and the latest scientific research on the teenage brain. Learn how the brain responds to alcohol and drugs and what promotes a healthy brain. Presented by Dr.Sion Harris from Harvard/Children’s Hospital.

Changing Norms: How Not to be a Small Fishing Town with a Large Drinking Problem” – May 25, 2016
This program will share some data on high school binge drinking behavior -and known risk factors. Together we will discuss what parents can do to model responsible drinking, and teach kids about the consequences of alcohol use and abuse, Also, tangible ideas for how to talk with other adults surrounding this cultural issue.Steve Maguire Co-Presents with Annmarie Galvin from FACTS.

Barbara Quinlan is a new employee of Scituate FACTS. She works with parents, teachers, local businesses and high school students to plan substance-free social events, and cool volunteer projects in support of our mission. All high school students who attend school in Scituate or live in Scituate are welcome to participate. Parents and teens may email Barbara Quinlan to get on list: email@example.com
After School Club/Planning Meetings at SHS are held most Tuesdays right after school in room 103. (Meetings and youth volunteer opportunities are announced via Student Twitter @shsfacts – and through remind.com once student signed up.) Next student planning meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 2:18pm in Room 103.
